Its geographical location which allows for a great number of days with ample sunshine along with the rich soil contribute to the uniqueness and the fine quality of the olive oil. It is no accident therefore that in Crete fossilized olive leaves have been discovered dating back 50.000 years ago! More than 60% of the cultivated land in Crete is devoted to growing olives. As a result, Crete is one of the greatest olive oil exporting regions in the European Union.
